DESCRIPTION
The Archaeological Museum of Ilida is located within the archaeological site of the homonymous area and combines an elegant and perfectly harmonized with the natural environment exterior architecture with a functional and spacious interior. It is the work of the architect Anastasios Birris and was built during the period 2000-2004. It dominates imposingly at the foot of the ancient acropolis overlooking the entire archaeological site. Visitors to it have the opportunity to admire exhibits that have been stowed in storage for several years. The museum combines a perfectly harmonized outdoor architecture with exposed vases, statues, sculptures, tombstones, clay and stone architectural members, figurines, bronze utensils, guns, coins and other ancient objects. It has a control room with screens that allow continuous monitoring of the museum’s key points, a large reception room and a showroom with four halls. There is also a partly hollow courtyard that houses some sculptures, like the mosaic floor with the works of Hercules and the symbols of the Muses. It is open all year round and accommodates tourists and students.
