Holy Monastery of Panagia Isodiotissi in Agios Ioannis

The Holy Monastery of Panagia Isodiotissi – also known as the Birth of the Virgin – is located in the local community of Agios Ioannis in the municipality of Pyrgos. At the 5th kilometer of the provincial road of Pyrgos – Katakolos and within a rock, there is the church of the Monastery, built in the 15th century. The Monastery, until 1974, was the Metohi of Skafidia Monastery, after which the School of Hagiography and Byzantine Music was founded there, and thus the Monastery became independent.Today, the School is still in the building located in front of the church. In the courtyard of the Monastery, every year, on the 8th of September, on the feast of the Birth of the Virgin, a feast is held, while the place is visited by believers from all of Ilia and beyond. As for the School of Hagiography and Byzantine Music, from the Monastery of Our Lady of Inauguration hundreds of hagiographers and musicians have been graduated.
